About

Who am I?

My name is Jonathan and I live in Singapore. I have a Diploma in Psychology Studies from Temasek Polytechnic and a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Communications & New Media from the National University of Singapore Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, where I was valedictorian in 2021. I am currently working as an internal communications specialist at GIC, the national sovereign wealth fund.

I have done volunteer work with organisations such as PUB, the national water agency, and Bunny Wonderland, a rescue group from which my family adopted one of our two pet rabbits. I have also written about social issues such as education and disability for the digital newspaper TODAYonline, where I have an author page here, drawing on my lived experiences as a patient with a physical disability called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. My articles have been well-received, with one even being cited in Parliament! They have also resulted in me being invited to contribute on various panels and boards, such as the SingHealth Patient Advocacy Network at KK Women's and Children's Hospital where I serve as advisor. I also accept invitations to write freelance articles on an ad-hoc basis, so feel free to hit me up with a proposal.

Other eclectic interests of mine include Roman military history, naval warfare, cooking, football rules, and massively multiplayer online role-playing game design. In my free time, I'm usually somewhere in the virtual world of RuneScape, a game I have played for over a decade.

This blog

Welcome to Jonathan's Junkyard! This is my personal blog, where I will be posting random stuff that I decide to write. This blog basically serves as a repository for all my musings, ramblings, etc., which is why it's called my "Junkyard".

I started this blog because I enjoy writing, and wanted a place where I can share my thoughts with others. Social media is not really appropriate for longer pieces of text so I figured I should use this platform instead. Furthermore, I needed something to show people that I can indeed write, and hopefully do it well to boot.

I'm not an avid blogger so my posts will be on an ad-hoc basis, depending on whether there is something I want to write about.

So what can you expect to see here? Anything and everything! Opinion pieces, sports analysis, short works of fiction, humour and sarcasm, recipes, reviews, etc. Click around on the various labels on the right margin to explore the different topics.

For those who stumble upon this blog from overseas, welcome! I am a Singaporean so my posts may contain references to Singapore culture that you may not understand. Nonetheless, do browse them and I hope they give you a glimpse of what life in Singapore is like.

That's it! Now, feel free to look around, and I hope you find a few minutes of entertainment here. Thanks once again for visiting!
